"W-we were starving on the Stretch! [Tangle] caught the only prey we'd seen in weeks while I was asleep. I found it with him when I woke up! H-he was going to keep it all by himself! He was going to let me starve, I know he was! I was so hungry. And afraid...I...he..." —Fire about killing Tangle in Episode 10: Pride Law.

Tangle was an African lion and a No-Mane who used to be a member of Fire's No-Mane band.

He debuted in Episode 4, and was later revealed to have been murdered by Fire on the Prideless Stretch in Episode 10.

Personality[]

Tangle was a gentle and friendly lion. He was impressed with the fact Nothing had fought Quickmane as a cub, and also shared he would not have the guts to pull off such a feat, implementing that Tangle was probably not the bravest. Tangle also supported Fire against Proud when he was insulting Nothing for not being good at anything.[1] He also helped Fire escape when he was being attacked by Quickmane, showing his care for his friend.

Tangle had a pale brown pelt with a creamy gray muzzle, paws, eyelids, underbelly, and eyelids. He had a fuzzy pale blonde mane, with two segments of it draping over his lime green eyes.[1]
When Tangle and Fire were starving on the Prideless Stretch, he was shown to be immensely skinnier, with the outlines of his bones showing through.[3]

Relationships[]

Fire[]

Tangle and Fire were shown to be close friends, and it was hinted at both in the show and by the creator that Tangle had a crush on him. After Proud murdered Quickmane not long after the latter tried to kill Fire, Tangle led him away from the battle. The two were separated from their group and forced to live on the Prideless Stretch. Tangle was seemingly happy to have Fire with him, and tried his best to feed both of them, but after catching a rather large meal, Fire killed him after thinking Tangle would keep the meal all to himself.[citation needed]

Voice Actor[]

  • Malcolm Derikx[6]

Appearances[]

Episode Four: Outsider[]

Tangle was seen with his fellow group members. When Proud starts talking about Fire's sister's name being Nothing, Fire tells him to stop, but he continues. Tangle then defends Nothing and angrily states that Proud does not know when to shut up. When Feather mentions what she did to his father, Quickmane’s face, Tangle is surprised and praises her, commenting on how he would be too scared to do anything like that.[1]

Episode Nine: Fire[]

Tangle is seen in a flashback, helping Fire away from the battle between Quickmane and Proud. Fire explains to Nothing that he and Tangle were wandering alone on the Stretch after that, but when Nothing asked Fire where his friend is now, Fire admits that he did not make it and reminds Nothing that the Prideless Stretch is tough to come by.[3]

Episode Ten: Pride Law[]

When Fire yells at Ghost for interrupting his and Nothing’s fight, Ghost channels Tangle’s spirit. Through Ghost, Tangle says to Fire that he ‘was going to share it’. When Nothing inquiries into this, Fire reveals that Tangle had caught the first prey they had seen in weeks while he was sleeping. Fire was convinced that Tangle was going to eat it by himself and let his friend starve and thus killed him in a fit of rage. Tangle repeats his words in a panic through Ghost, causing Fire to beg for Ghost to stop.[5]
